The Viking is the revision of a Helle classic that was originally produced as a part of a fund-raiser for an around-the-world expedition in a Viking longship.
The handle is barrel shaped, but tapered to give the knife a distinct grip even if it is not contoured. It offers beauty in its simplicity and has become a modern classic, even if the design is more than a 1000 years old.
The knife works really well with all size hands, but should only be used by those of you that have more experience. No finger guard here, so think before use.
The knife is equipped with a rather thick blade, made of laminated carbon steel. Black to its finish, straight from heat treatment. Its narrow tang reaches all the way through the handle and is pinned old style with a diamond shaped washer.
Viking comes with a traditional back sewn leather sheath to hang in its leather loop on the belt.
This knife will rust if not maintained.

The Viking knife was given to me, and I nearly gave it away as an owner of many other fine knives. My lifestyle and career changed to a hobby farmer and a utility knife was needed. Now the knife is worn daily and put through chopping, carving, cutting, and even light digging tasks daily. It holds up fabulously. The Scandi edge is very durable. I just sharpened the knife in the fall and a neighbor needed my help butchering a large elk. It worked better than his hunting knives, which were supposed to be sharp. It does everything well. It is not a good meat processing knife but, I know it can field dress large game well and get it to the butcher table. It sharpens and maintains well. The sheath works going in and out of a truck, tractor or mower with a little practice. I will not think about giving this knife away again. It has a hard, but cared for life and will last many more years. The fixed blade is a quicker option for access and use. Good job Helle!
A good sturdy knife that holds a good edge.
I love the historic Viking-era significance of this knife, as well as the quality craftsmanship! The curly birch handle is beautiful. I have had my eye on this knife for a long time, and am glad I finally made the purchase. It's a keeper!
The Helle Viking is everything I was hoping for and more. Now making a custom leather sheath for it, nothing wrong with the original, I just always wanted to make one of these sheaths the old-fashioned way, with the wood insert and some cool leather work.
I give these knives out to personnel as they leave the program. Everyone has numerous plaques after their careers, but no Viking knives. I engrave them with the unit logo and an old Norse phrase. Everyone loves them.
